Finance God's Way
Honoring God First (முதலில் தேவனைக் கனம்பண்ணுதல்)
In April 2023, Good Samaritan Mission experienced a transformative moment as Bro. Senthil from Compass Financial Ministries led our congregation through biblical principles of financial stewardship. This conference equipped our church community with God's perspective on one of life's most practical challenges—how we handle money.
"Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine." — Proverbs 3:9-10 (NKJV)
The Bible is far from silent about money and possessions. Jesus spoke more frequently about financial matters than almost any other topic, revealing the profound spiritual significance of our material choices. The reason is clear: our handling of earthly treasure directly reflects the condition of our hearts.
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." — Matthew 6:21 (NKJV)
Biblical financial stewardship begins with a fundamental truth that transforms everything: God owns all things, and we are managers, not owners. This perspective revolutionizes how we approach earning, spending, saving, and giving.
Seeking the Kingdom First
The world's financial wisdom centers on accumulation, comparison, and anxiety about provision. God's Word calls believers to a radically different approach—one that prioritizes His kingdom above all earthly concerns.
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." — Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)
Seeking God's kingdom first does not promote financial carelessness or irresponsibility. Rather, it calls for intentional stewardship—wise budgeting, avoiding unnecessary debt, saving for future needs, and generous giving. When we prioritize God's kingdom, He promises to provide for our needs, freeing us from the anxiety that drives worldly financial decisions.
Biblical Principles for Financial Stewardship
God Owns Everything (தேவன் எல்லாவற்றின் சொந்தக்காரர்)
Recognizing God's ownership fundamentally changes our relationship with money. We are stewards entrusted with His resources, accountable for how we manage what He has provided. This perspective eliminates greed and promotes faithful management.
Avoid Debt (கடனைத் தவிர்க்கவும்)
Scripture warns clearly about the dangers of debt, describing it as a form of servitude that limits our freedom to serve God wholeheartedly.
"The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender." — Proverbs 22:7 (NKJV)
Save Wisely (ஞானமாக சேமிக்கவும்)
Biblical wisdom encourages saving and planning for the future, using the example of the ant that prepares during times of abundance for seasons of scarcity.
"Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, Which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler, Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest." — Proverbs 6:6-8 (NKJV)
Give Generously (தாராளமாக கொடுங்கள்)
Generous giving reflects God's character and demonstrates our trust in His provision. The motivation for giving should flow from a joyful heart, not obligation or compulsion.
"So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver." — 2 Corinthians 9:7 (NKJV)
Practice Contentment (திருப்தியை பயிற்சி செய்யுங்கள்)
True wealth comes not from accumulating possessions but from finding contentment in God's provision. Godliness combined with contentment produces lasting satisfaction that money cannot buy.
"Now godliness with contentment is great gain." — 1 Timothy 6:6 (NKJV)
Living Out God's Financial Principles
Our financial choices serve as a practical testimony of our faith. When we trust God with our resources, we can give generously without fear of lack. When we believe in His provision, we can save wisely without hoarding. When we recognize Him as our ultimate security, we can live free from financial anxiety.
This approach to finances—God's way—stands in stark contrast to both poverty theology and prosperity gospel extremes. It calls believers to faithful stewardship that honors God, blesses others, and provides for genuine needs while maintaining eternal perspective.
The conference at Good Samaritan Mission reminded our community that biblical financial stewardship is not merely about money management—it is about heart transformation. As we align our financial practices with God's Word, we discover the freedom, peace, and joy that come from living as faithful stewards of His abundant provision.
