How to Know God's Will

One of the most pressing questions for believers today is: "How do I know God's will for my life?" Many seek dramatic signs, visions, or audible voices from heaven. However, Scripture reveals that discovering God's will is fundamentally about the condition of our heart rather than waiting for a specific supernatural event.

Jesus delivered a sobering warning about the importance of doing God's will:

"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." — Matthew 7:21 (NKJV)

This passage reveals two essential requirements for knowing God's will: avoiding conformity to the world and experiencing transformation through the renewal of our minds.

To discern God's will, we must actively resist the influences and values of the world that draw us away from God's purposes. Scripture warns against worldly affections:

Just as Jesus was sanctified for His mission, we are sanctified to:

• Know Jesus' will
• Do His will

God guides those who are willing to follow before they know the destination, like Abraham who "went out, not knowing where he was going" (Hebrews 11:8).

Sanctification begins with God but requires our response. When we are sanctified, we avoid conforming to the world and are transformed to align with God's purposes. The outcome is a life that knows God's will, does God's will, reveals God, and glorifies God.

Practical steps include:

• Stop waiting for signs and start obeying what you already know
• Saturate your mind with God's Word daily
• Surrender your plans and preferences to Him
• Seek counsel from mature believers
• Pray persistently and listen patiently

God's will is not hidden from those who genuinely seek it. He promises: "You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart" (Jeremiah 29:13).

The key is understanding that knowing God's will flows from being set apart for His purposes through sanctification, avoiding worldly conformity, and experiencing mental transformation through His Word and Spirit.
